Support for Your Creative Journey

The School of Art offers competitive, merit-based scholarships, graduate fellowships, and project-based funding to help students make the most of their education at a Tier One research university. Combined with the 兔子先生鈥檚 affordable tuition, these opportunities make pursuing your art or art history degree an exceptional value.

Types of Funding Available

Awarded to both undergraduate and graduate students based on academic achievement, artistic merit, and portfolio review. Undergraduate awards are determined by annual review; graduate applicants are considered as part of the admissions process. No separate application is required.

MFA students may be eligible for Graduate Tuition Fellowships through the UH Graduate School. These fellowships cover the cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees (typically up to 9 credit hours per semester) and are awarded based on full-time enrollment and academic standing.

More on Graduate Tuition Fellowships

Competitive awards available to undergraduate and graduate students to support research, residencies, or conference participation. Awards are evaluated based on how travel will advance a student鈥檚 work or thesis research.

Available to undergraduate and graduate students for specific student-initiated creative or scholarly projects. These competitive funds are designed to help launch new ideas, expand existing work, or encourage collaboration between Art History and Studio students in the School of Art.

Supplemental financial support is available on a rolling basis to MFA and MA students who are accepted into competitive residencies or other external programs that will further develop their practice. A faculty committee reviews applications as they are received and allocates funds based on the strength of the proposals and the number of applicants.

Out-of-state and international students who receive a competitive UH scholarship of $1,000 or more (including SoA awards) may receive a waiver of the out-of-state tuition portion, reducing their tuition to the in-state rate.

Students may initially see out-of-state tuition charges in their account. The waiver is applied separately and will adjust the balance once processed.
