Protecting  Our Progress

The research security program is jointly administered by the Office of Research Integrity and Oversight and the Office of Contracts and Grants.

The University is required by federal and state regulations (NSPM-33 and Texas SB 1565) to have a research security program. The research security program is jointly administered by the Office of Research Integrity and Oversight (RIO) and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG).

NSPM-33

National Security Presidential Memorandum-33 is a policy directive issued by the U.S. government to safeguard sensitive research and intellectual property in academic institutions from potential threats posed by foreign entities. NSPM-33 establishes guidelines for enhanced security measures, increased transparency in research collaborations, and protection of critical technologies.

Training and Workshops

UH provides Research Security Training through CITI to meet federal requirements. DOR also hosts workshops and special presentations on research security topics, which are recorded and published to the UH Research SharePoint Site.
