Houston Monarch Story

Monarch butterfly on a milkweed.

The Houston Monarch Story is an interactive art installation inspired by the need to provide an essential habitat for Monarch butterflies as they journey through Texas. This pollinator prairie is home to over 500 native plants and is animated by Monarch sculptures designed by Michelle Matthews.

Originally installed at Buffalo Bayou Park (May-November 2024), the installation will debut at the Houston Arboretum in March 2025.

Visitors can explore the installation and scan the QR codes to learn more about the Monarchs and their relationship to the Coastal Prairie ecosystem.
