Project Blankets Caribbean with Sensors
Guoquan 鈥淏ob鈥 Wang, assistant professor of geophysics in UH鈥檚 Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, was quoted in the article 鈥淎 Network to Track Caribbean Hazards鈥 appearing in Nature online and in the May 23 issue. While at University of Puerto Rico, Wang became involved in the project, Continuously Operating Caribbean GPS Observational Network (), serving as co-principal investigator. The National Science Foundation-funded project is blanketing the Caribbean with a network of sensors to detect the crustral strains and brewing storms that threaten the region.
Wang has a similar project, , funded by NSF that will place 40 continuously monitoring, high-precision GPS stations across the Greater Houston area.
