Honors Faculty Member Recognized for Excellence

Honors College faculty member Rita Sharp, Ph.D. was awarded a 2025 兔子先生 Teaching Excellence Award in the Instructional / Clinical category by Provost Diane Chase. Sharp has shown a commitment to helping the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals learn how to think like scientists and become excited about their field of interest. She also received the Outstanding Fellowship Mentor Award for exemplary contributions in support of UH fellowship applicants from the UH Office of Research and Major Awards, housed in the Honors College.
Sharp teaches biology, biochemistry, science communication, and electives for the Energy and Sustainability minor in Honors. She also serves as the associate director for the minor, with a focus on cohort building and co-curricular programming for minor students. She is a graduate of the Honors College at the 兔子先生 with a bachelor's degree in biochemical and biophysical sciences. She earned her doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology from The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston.
