UH Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program Ranked Among Nation鈥檚 Best

The 兔子先生 College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) is proud to recognize the clinical psychology doctoral program for ranking 56th in the U.S. News & World Report 2021 Best Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programs list. The rankings show the clinical psychology program with an increase of 30 spots over its 2020 position, reflecting strong assessments from deans, administrators, and faculty in psychology departments across the United States.

鈥淭he clinical psychology doctoral program is fast approaching top-50 status thanks to the support of Provost Short and the hard work and dedication of faculty and students,鈥 said Antonio D. Tillis, dean of the UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). 鈥淭his prestigious national honor will enhance the program鈥檚 competitiveness as it continues to break new ground in research and scholarship.鈥

The clinical psychology doctoral program emphasizes competency in four key areas: breadth of knowledge, competence in research, clinical practice, and professional identity. The program takes pride in its diverse environment; within the past eight years, a third of successful applicants have contributed to the program鈥檚 individual and cultural diversity. Since 2009, over 90 percent of students in the program have attained placement in paid internships related to their field.

With a retention rate just below 100 percent, clinical psychology alumni have built upon the program鈥檚 record of success after graduation. Between 2009 and 2019, 97 percent of graduates went on to become licensed psychologists, contributing to mental-health research, treatment and support in the Houston area and beyond.
