Looking for a meaningful way to support the University community? Cougar Card Services invites faculty and staff to volunteer during this Fall Move-In Week (Aug. 20-22) and the start of the semester (Aug. 25-26) at the Cougar Card Office, located in the Welcome Center, Suite 151.

鈥淚 really enjoyed working with the Cougar Card team! They were super welcoming, and it was fun getting to see them in action in their own space,鈥 said Cindy Crews, director, Parking and Transportation Services. 鈥淰olunteering during move-in gave me the chance to meet excited new students, help them get their cards quickly, and be part of creating a great first impression.鈥

Last fall, Cougar Card Services 鈥 supported by volunteers 鈥 successfully issued cards to returning students, new staff, and a record-breaking 6,200 incoming freshmen.

鈥淲e鈥檙e expecting to see even more incoming freshmen this fall as our campus continues to grow,鈥 said Daisy Del Fierro, assistant director, Cougar Card Services. 鈥淲e appreciate the time other departments take to support us during such a busy time for everyone and to help us create a welcoming experience for everyone coming to the Cougar Card Office.鈥

Volunteer Roles and Sign-Up
Volunteers can sign up via the Cougar Card Volunteer Interest Form, with shifts available in two-hour blocks. Flexible scheduling is available through the 鈥淥ther鈥 option. Roles include:

  • Greeting and assisting students, faculty, and staff
  • Distributing Cougar Cards
  • Guiding users through the photo upload and virtual line/appointment system
  • Reviewing photo submissions
  • Responding to questions via phone or email

Training and quick guides will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary 鈥 just Cougar spirit!

鈥淚 assisted with distributing Cougar Cards, guided students whose cards weren鈥檛 ready, and answered parking-related questions using my background in Parking Services,鈥 said Gazelle Galvan, program coordinator 2, Parking & Transportation Services.

鈥淓ven in a small role, being part of that transition reminded me just how powerful a warm and welcoming interaction can be,鈥 added Dana Wimer, Facilities Director, Office of Administration.

Support and Appreciation
The Cougar Card office team ensures volunteers feel supported and valued.

鈥淏ecause they are available to help you with the task, the Cougar Card Office makes volunteering for them really simple,鈥 said two-year volunteer Diane Lyons-Sylvester, department business administrator, Auxiliary Services. 鈥淐ome volunteer with me if you have some free time!鈥

鈥淚f you have some free time, 30 minutes, an hour or two, please consider joining us at the Cougar Card Office. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome,鈥 said Del Fierro. 鈥淗elp us make the start of the semester a great experience! Your time can have a huge impact during a pivotal time on campus.鈥
